Bill's Priorities
Represent Ward 5 in an inclusive manner.
I am eager to listen to the community and hear your
ideas - not just my own. As the voice of the Ward 5 community, I will
make sure our voices are heard. The Board of Aldermen will benefit greatly
from new ideas and a new voice. Now is a time for change, and I will
not forget that I work for you.
Upgrade and maintain our schools and fields.
Our schools are critical to Newton's greatness. They
provide education for our kids' success in an increasingly competitive
world. They buoy our property values and are the lifeblood of our community.
But those who have seen Angier, Countryside, Zervas, or other elementary
schools know that their condition falls well short of what we should
expect. The same is true of our sports facilities. We can and must do
much better.
Promote intelligent and responsible fiscal management.
I will work to ensure that Newton's large-scale construction
projects stay on budget - honoring the financial and scheduling commitments
made to the public and preserving our resources for other needs.
Support and equip those who ensure our safety.
We entrust our safety to our firefighters and police. They are our first line of response and do an excellent job in less-than-ideal circumstances. We also put our kids' safety and education in the hands of our teachers on a daily basis. Police, firefighters, and teachers deserve adequate tools and facilities - and the full support of our community - to uphold their morale, dignity, and effectiveness.
Preserve our villages and community.
Newton's unique villages are a precious means of community in a world that is increasingly digitized, disconnected, and exclusive. Our villages and commercial areas must be maintained and evolve in a way that supports our sense of community, reduces congestion, and still smartly supports business owners and commerce
